ABOUT

34 Years of Dash History

It began in 1985 as a race between bars and as a training event for an Irish Olympian. Now it’s Seattle’s largest single-distance fun run/walk, where the winners cross the finish before the last person starts. The Dash fills three miles of Seattle streets with a ribbon of green.

The F5 St. Patrick’s Day Dash is a family event with something for everyone. There are young athletes racing to be the first across the Finish Line, and former jocks racing to be the first in the beer garden. With 34 years of history, the Dash attracts three generations of participants.

If you haven’t been to the St. Patrick’s Day Dash before, get ready for a big party! Along our 5K route, racing is a relative term. You could be passed by a human pot of gold, an inflatable leprechaun, a bunch of beer cans, or a grown man in a tutu.

For the kids 10 & under, the 1K Leprechaun Lap Kicks off the day. The Dash was one of the first races in the area to use Wave Starts, so you can run at your own pace.  Our 5K course begins on Mercer St next to Seattle Center, dashes through Downtown on 4th Ave., and finishes under the Shadow of the Space Needle.

The Post Dash Bash includes sponsor booths and one of the region’s best St. Patrick’s Beer Gardens featuring live music, great games and prizes, plus a Costume Contest. Not to mention, the Irish Heritage Club hosts their annual Festival right next door in the Armory.

The F5 St. Patrick’s Day Dash is ending 10 years of partnership with the Detlef Schrempf Foundation. We will miss their support, but look forward to beginning a new chapter with our local charities who provide key volunteers.

We also couldn’t do it without our great sponsors and partners. A special thank you to F5 Networks, Redhook, Brooks and QFC for their continued support of the Dash.
